Simple Sewing: Make Your Own Hanging Book Sling

This project is so going onto my "to do" list as I could hang this sucker up high enough that my son couldn't get a hold of it to eat the books (some bedtime stories have suffered terrible fates so far when I had a book holder in the children's bedroom) and, at the same time, it'll have a small enough profile I won't have to worry about my kids whacking themselves on it.  Double bonus is that the books are secured in the sling so you don't have to worry about them falling off of a shelf in an earthquake too :).

DIY: How to install a zipper

Okay, I have a huge confession to make.  Zippers and all the complexities they imply scare the holy beejeebiz out of me!  I have done wonders with velcro and other fasteners as a way to avoid the looming threat of having to put a zipper into something.

So, when I saw this Tutorial on how to Install a Basic Zipper on Make It and Love It I had to share.  She breaks down how to install a zipper with some cool short cuts too and does it in such a way that even I think I might be able to do this.  Still not confident enough to try and replace the broken zipper in the jacket that used to belong to my dad, but I might try it on some reusable snack bags at some point ;).
