Free Local Events in Anchorage, Alaska
"Last summer, I tried out some great free events, which I found on the site "Alaska's Best Grocery Deals: Free Local Events". When the kids are home for the summer, it is nice to get them involved in the local community. Plus, most of the events listed on the site have an educational component in addition to solely entertainment. One of my favorites I attended last year was the Festival of Flowers. It took place in Town Square Park, and the event showcased great art pieces in addition to beautiful flowers. Furthermore, it was a great event for the kids. My daughter loved the face painting booths and the live music.
If your kids enjoy music events, the city of Anchorage is hosting a children's music event at Peratrovich Park from 12-1 pm on June 6th, 2011. The show is designed for children in pre-school, and it will definitely be an exciting show! It may be a good idea to get there early, so you can get seats close to the stage/performances. The event usually gets pretty crowded.
I also recommend the Park Fix-it event. You can help your kids learn the importance of maintaining local parks and infrastructure. The event will provide free lunch for volunteers, and you may get to meet some exciting, active community members! You and your family may also decide to become permanent volunteers for the Anchorage Park Foundation.
Happy summer to you and your family!"
