Introducing: Operation Grassroots Alaska

Okay, over the past two or so months I've noticed a couple of things.  One:  The price on things just keeps going UP.  And two:  The higher the price on items I USED to buy, I quickly started noticing that the prices to buy locally produced items was getting more and more reasonable.  And darn it, locally grown produce TASTES better.

I have just gotten to the point in couponing where I figure I'm saving enough money with coupons on other things that I'm pretty sure I can swing buying locally grown produce and buying locally made milk without killing my grocery budget.

Then the gerbil in the treadmill of my mind started running it's little legs off.  And then I started thinking, "Gee, maybe people have products and/or businesses that they'd like to highlight for their fellow shoppers."

So, here's my thought.  I've decided to launch a segment once a week on the site called "Operation:  Grass Roots Alaska" where every week I will try to highlight a local Alaskan Business and/or Alaska produced product for everyone to learn about.

Here's what I'd love see from all of you.  If you'd like to highlight a local business (and yes this goes for ALL of Alaska, not just Anchorage and the Valley, and yes if you are really proud of your business and believe it's note worthy, please feel free to e-mail me that too :) or a local product that you buy, I'd love for you to e-mail me a blurb on the product/business to appear here as part of this segment.  And hey, you might get to see your article printed for all to read on why you love a certain business or product.

In the middle of it all, I will be on my own little quest to find my own local connections for produce, meat, and other fresh groceries.

So, talk my ear off people or this segment will get really boring really fast *laugh*.  Send any articles/ blurbs you'd like to be considered for this segment to...

alaskanbargainhunter (at) gmail (dot) com

and PLEASE if you have a time sensitive product and/or service (say it's a business that only exists in the Spring or summer months, etc) be sure to let me know that so I can get it in print faster :).

Here's hoping we can all learn some new and cool things about this wonderful state of ours and find some cool bargains and products too!
